The IDEFICS intervention was relatively able to prevent unfavourable changes in ST and light PA in schools with a medium and high intervention process score. Further process evaluation research is needed to obtain a more profound picture of the IDEFICS intervention process.
children's sugar intake on weekdays versus weekends: the IDEFICS study RESULTS: Intake of total sugars exceeded 20 energy % in all countries but one.
IDEFICS study helps provide information on this issue. Insights gained by the IDEFICS study The IDEFICS study, authored by Jiménez-Pavón and associates, uses more than 3,000 two- to nine-year-old children from eight European countries to determine the relationships between objectively-monitored PA and a clustered CVD risk score. OW/Ob had significantly higher leptin and L/A ratio as compared to Non-OW. High salivary MS count was found among 18% of the children in a sub-sample from the Swedish IDEFICS cohort. Higher BMI z-score, more frequent intake of meals and higher propensity for consuming sugar were all independently associated with higher MS count. In contrast, an inverse association was found between hours of sleep and MS count. 2015-09-29 Association between a metabolic syndrome score and high sensitivity C-reactive protein in European children: the IDEFICS study - Volume 79 Issue OCE2 Skip to main content Accessibility help We use cookies to distinguish you from other users and to provide you with a better experience on our websites. In this example the sum of the Z-scores for the IDEFICS MetS score for the child concerned was 4.9. To be able to evaluate this result, the information Percentile: 93 appears in the line beneath.
This additive score is defined as the sum of waist circumference sex- and age-specific z-scores (WC), HOMA-Index, the mean of the diastolic (DBP) and systolic (SBP) blood pressure z-scores, and the mean of triglycerides and HDL-C z-scores (the latter multiplied with -1, due to the inverse association between HDL-C and the metabolic risk profile): We used the a priori diet score, HDAS, as calculated from the FFQ used in the IDEFICS survey , as an indicator of the overall quality of the diet. Of note, the HDAS was based on healthy dietary guidelines common for the eight European countries that were included in the IDEFICS study, hence substantial evidence of beneficial health effects are underlying the foods and beverages included [ 23 ].

Understanding and preventing childhood obesity and related disorders – IDEFICS: A European multilevel epidemiological approach. Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases. 2006; 16(4): 302-308.
The IDEFICS study is the first study to investigate the association between proxy-reported daily food intake, energy intake and energy density of foods and BMI z-score in 2–9-year-old European children. The results indicate that proxy-reporters are subject to misreporting especially for children in the higher BMI levels and that energy intake is a more important predictor of unhealthy weight development in children than daily food intake.

Hälsofrämjande budskap om rörelse och lek, frukt och grönt, dryck/vatten, sömn/vila och tid tillsammans för god hälsa. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome is highest among obese children. All definitions classify a small percentage of thin or normal weight children as being affected. The metabolic syndrome score shows a positive trend with age, particularly regarding the upper percentiles of the score.

The IDEFICS study is one of the largest cross‐cultural scientific efforts for childhood obesity prevention in Europe. The main purpose of the IDEFICS project was to develop, implement and evaluate a community‐oriented setting‐based intervention programme for 2‐ to 9.9‐year‐old children in eight different European countries (Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Germany, Hungary The IDEFICS study helps provide information on this issue. The Bremen Institute for Prevention Research and Social Medicine at the University of Bremen, today the Leibniz Institute for Since it was assumed that high quality of life indicates lower stress level and the ability to cope with stress, the IDEFICS guideline panel took a well-being stress score as an indicator of stress coping. The IDEFICS intervention was relatively able to prevent unfavourable changes in ST and light PA in schools with a medium and high intervention process score. Further process evaluation research is needed to obtain a more profound picture of the IDEFICS intervention process. RESULTS: Mean intervention process score (maximum value = 44) was 20.9 ± 5.8 for schools.
